The actors did their own lights, camera, make-up, and costume. This digital Birdsong coincides with the anniversary too, but that’s where the similarities end: it was filmed entirely in lockdown. First came the 2012 TV series, starring Eddie Redmayne and Clémence Poésy then Trevor Nunn’s 2010 stage production for the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme. Birdsong, Sebastian Faulks’ bestselling First World War novel, has been adapted many times in its 27 years. ![]()
